British Leyland had a world beater with the Triumph Stag it looks good with top up or down. However it did have a dodgy reputation which made the cars demise even more sad and tragic.

The strength giving roll bar blends seamlessly into the Triumphs build and enhances the cars profile by Michelotti to become a strong part of the character for the stag.
Which gave the car a unique sleek design and styling.

The Stags 2998cc V eight engine produces 145bhp, which in manual overdrive position 2810lb four seat car capable of 116mph, with 0-60 in 9.3 seconds.

The Automatic Triumph Stags were good for 110mph. With the both versions of the car producing around 20 miles to the gallon.

With struts upfront and semi-trailing arms behind. The Stag had neat and conventional handling abilities.

The Triumph Stag was sometimes prone to overheating which was often triggered by a blocked radiator which was sensitive to silting. Which means that you need give the car a coolant flush  with antifreeze once a year. If this was not done a blown head gasket soon followed and at the same time the thin overheated oil would not protect the crank bearings.

A worn timing chain on a neglected Stag engine can also cause trouble. Left to long the chain would destroy the valve gear.

In the beginning the Triumph Stag produced good sales. But as the car started to develop a reputation the car sales declined rapidly. The V-eight was not used in any other car. Also with other detail changes. With the last Stags (mkIIs) being built in 1977.

The good news is that nowadays the Triumph Stag specialists seem to have the problems sorted. Now with uprated radiators, hardened cranks and regular 3000 mile oil changes.

The Triumph Stag remains to be one of the most popular classic cars on the road to day and there are many owners clubs and enthusiasts keeping the existing Triumph Stags in supreme condition.
